The Ditsong National Museum of Natural History formerly known as the Transvaal Museum was founded on the 1st of December 1892. Since then it has acted as custodian and documentation centre of South Africa's natural heritage. It is the only natural history museum in Gauteng and one of the largest in South Africa. Yes, it is true that some of the exhibits have not been updated in many years, but everything is still relevant and great fun for children of all ages. The museum is clean and security is good although parking can be a challenge. Tip: Ask them about hosting a sleep-over at the museum. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience the kids will never forget.
